Nepal’s Position Paper “Achieving Inclusive Water Security in Nepal” for UN 2023 Water Conference

Context:
The UN Water Conference is being held second time in the history, after the first one held in Mar Del Plata , Argentina in 1977. The conference focuses on five themes: i) water for health, ii) water for sustainable development, iii) water for climate resilience and environment, iv) water for cooperation, and v) water action decade. Government of Nepal is also preparing to participate and organize a side event. The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (MoEWRI) is the focal ministry for the UN water conference as per the decision of the Government of Nepal. To synthesize the status of current situation and priorities ahead, the MoEWRI has drafted a position paper. It aims to highlight the overview of water resources in Nepal, the issues and challenges of water resources development and management, and ways to achieve water security in the country. This consultation workshop is organized to gather further inputs from related stakeholders for strengthening the position paper further.
